Improving Organisation Performance - A systems approach

Performance means different things to different commentators. Even when the focus is on the contribution that people make to the collective context, the words ‘performance management’ are all too often narrowly interpreted as a particular kind of personnel control system. Many are unhappy with the effect, and there is an increasing clamour to discard some of the core mechanisms typically involved.

This discussion paper seeks to take a fresh look at the people components of improving organisation performance – from direction setting to reward – but frame it in the wider context of how organisations as a whole are run and developed.

The purpose of this paper is to be succinct, and to stimulate thinking and reflection on organisational practices.
